Dr. Joe Ronald Cannon is a board-certified dermatologist with additional certifications in dermatopathology currently providing comprehensive dermatology services in Abilene, Texas, where he has practiced since 1988.
Dr. Cannon graduated summa cum laude with his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Texas Tech University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He then received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center, and completed his residency training in dermatology at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Cannon also completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of Oklahoma.
Before beginning his practice in Abilene, Dr. Cannon held academic appointments as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Texas Tech University School of Medicine, and also practiced in Wichita Falls, Texas.
In addition to his practice experience, Dr. Cannon is also involved with several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathology, Taylor-Jones-Haskell County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association, where he served as a delegate and on the Board of Councilors. His work has appeared in several publications throughout his practice history.
In the late 1980s, Dr. Cannon saw a need for a specialized pillow to treat his patients suffering from CNH, or pressure sores on the ear. He had suggested various do-it-yourself methods, but found that many of his patients were unable to find a practical solution that would alleviate the pain and allow their pressure sores to heal. This eventually led Dr. Cannon to design and develop the SleepEasy CNH Pillow. The CNH Pillow is now widely recommended by dermatologists, and is considered the preferred treatment for CNH.
